The Kinzua Bridge Foundation

The Kinzua Bridge Foundation, Inc. was formally incorporated in the State of PA on November 1, 1993. It is also a non-profile 501(c)(3) corporation. The Foundation is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Kinzua bridge, the promotion of its historical and cultural significance, as well as the further development of the adjoining State Park.

To accomplish this purpose, the organization shall receive and invest such monetary gifts, donations, and bequests and use the monies for the establishment or development of any projects intended to serve the long-term best interest of the Kinzua Bridge, Hamlin Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania, and the citizens living in the immediate environs.

The Foundation has an Executive Board consisting of the elected officers. This includes the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. An Executive Director is appointed by the Executive Board. The Board of Trustees shall not be less than three nor more than fifteen members.

All officers are members of the Board of Trustees The Foundation has formed working partnerships with the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of State Parks, and the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau to increase awareness of, and visitation to, the State Park. The Foundation organizes a yearly Kinzua Bridge State Park “Fall Festival”.

It is held for two days at the State Park during the third weekend of September and includes arts/crafts and food vendors and live, family style musical entertainment. Other projects that the Foundation has been involved with are efforts to “Save the Bridge” before reconstruction began in 2003, on-site clean-up after the tornado damage of 2003, and major fund raising to do rehabilitation at the State Park in the next few years.

Possible future projects at the State Park include funding a pavilion with a stone fireplace, a gazebo, an outdoor amphitheater, and landscaping of the site after construction of the interpretive center/museum proposed in the State's Capital Budget.
